Become a General Member

Accordingly, our general philosophy is that an active member feels ownership over our collective work. Both nationally and locally, we push members to take the initiative in our planning and organizing and create spaces for training and leadership. This approach to membership not only incentivizes paying dues regularly but also builds our organization and upholds our feelings of family and connectedness. In line with our value of holistic energy, we see strong relationships, caring for each other, and collective healing as central pillars of EAT’s membership.

Guidelines for General Membership are as follows:

  • Identify as Black and/or part of the Diaspora
  • Have lived experience in the informal economy
  • Believe in the principles of democratic leadership, decision-making, and radical inclusiveness.
  • Be committed to building a Black politic in space led by people with records of both violent and nonviolent offenses.
  • Attend an orientation meeting scheduled by the current chapter. Orientation is on the 15th of every month via Zoom.
  • Attend two events distinct from a chapter meeting (a social event, organizing event, etc.)
  • Pay Monthly Dues
