Letter Writing Campaign

Connecting volunteers with incarcerated individuals for support and restorative healing.

Letter Writing Campaign

Launched in 2021, EAT's Letter Writing campaign connects EAT volunteers and staff with incarcerated individuals through monthly correspondence to provide support, deepen relationships, and learn about immediate and ongoing needs, particularly as they approach release. EAT's Letter Writing Campaign is an opportunity for us to build with our incarcerated brothers and sisters.

Equity and Transformation (EAT) is a Black not-for-profit organization led by formerly incarcerated individuals that are dedicated to changing the social and economic conditions that have criminalized our communities. We understand the challenges that Black and Brown individuals face in the U.S. legal system, a system that was intentionally designed to keep our people in a cycle of returning to prison and isolation from their family and friends.

EAT currently writes to 50 individuals incarcerated in 16 prisons, 15 in Illinois and one in Wisconsin. The Letter Writing campaign meets once a month to provide participants with support, resources for re-entry services, and camaraderie. If you are interested in volunteering as a correspondent and participating in this deeply enriching experience, please contact: Glenn Taylor - G.taylor@eatchicago.org.
